Whether it’s eggs benedict, a freshly baked and flaky croissant, or a trendy acai bowl, there’s no better way to start your day than with a delicious breakfast.
The average person spends their day running here and there performing different errands and while there might be a quick grab for a coffee mid-morning, it’s important you sometimes stop to enjoy a wholesome meal. Luckily, Coolangatta is filled with great places to eat.
Cafe 28
Part of the Boardriders store, Cafe 28 offers sensational views of Coolangatta Beach and is the perfect spot to settle your hunger post-surf. The vibe is relaxed and coastal, unpretentious and the food homely. Enjoy bacon and egg sandwiches, cheese and tomato melts, smashed avocado and other such favourites. Wash it down with Syndicate Espresso, blended by Clark St Roasters Melbourne.
Cafe Ambiente
For something different, Cafe Ambiente does a mean matcha latte. It also serves up tasty treats like sourdough toast with smashed avocado, mushrooms, goats cheese, eggs and hollandaise sauce. The Acai bowl will put a spring in your step too.
The Black Sheep Espresso Baa
Voted the number one restaurant in Coolangatta on TripAdvisor, the Black Sheep Espresso Baa is a vibrant little cafe that packs a punch. Owner Dinesh is the friendliest guy in Cooly and he even welcomes dogs! The cafe’s main focus is coffee (it’s really, really, really good coffee), but that’s not to say that the food is anything less. There’s plenty of yummy options, and its legendary acai bowl is freshness on a plate.
Kirramisu
Just around the corner in Kirra sits Kirramisu, a well-established cafe with a loyal following. The employees here are handpicked to not only compliment the laid back surf culture, but also provide the highest quality of service. Open from 5:30am in the summer even the earliest of risers can get a great feed from the simple toasted muesli to a big breaky burrito of homemade pesto, mushrooms, tomato, onion, bocconcini and topped with rocket and two poached eggs.
Griffith St Larder
Combining the laidback style of Coolangatta with the passion and experience of inner-city Melbourne (where owners Kylie and Dennis served coffee for more than a decade) the casual dining at Griffith St Larder is breakfast not to be missed. Paired with locally roasted Blackboard Coffee the menu is sure to delight with everything from a healthy breakfast bowl to apple pie french toast and salted caramel syringe cronuts. Yum!
Cafe DBar
The views don’t get much better than at Cafe DBar with panoramic views of the Gold Coast Hinterland down to the Northern Rivers of NSW and Byron shire. Nestled on Point Danger, Cafe DBar’s menu includes creamy truffle mushrooms with hazelnut crumble, beetroot cured salmon gravelax with radish, and Egyptian pumpkin with fried eggs, falafel fingers, mushrooms and baba ghanoush.
Pancake Diner
If you want to keep the kids (and big kids) happy over breakfast, you can’t go past Pancake Diner. This family favourite diner hails back to Coolangatta’s retro vibes and serves up classic eggs benedict, vegetarian potato cakes and a breaky with the works. But let’s face it, pancakes are what you want and pancakes are what you shall get. Lemon and sugar, chocolate juliette, Jamaica banana, hot Bavarian apple, macadamia, blueberries, passionfruit, sticky date, black forest, fresh strawberries and more, there’s lots to explore!
Bellakai
Bellakai (translated to ‘beautiful food’ is the place where you’ll find all your favourites, from free range eggs served any way you like to eggs benedict on a potato rosti. It’s simple white decor and outdoor seating with ocean views makes for a fresh start to the day.
Rockleigh Cafe
Named after the family farm, Rockleigh Cafe is a family-owned cafe serving family-sized portions. Community culture is what this cafe is all about and it’s a great place to meet old friends, make new ones and take the little ones. Enjoy Panya sourdough, porridge with spiced quinoa and buttermilk waffles with chia-baked apple and house shortbread.
Crema Espresso
Crema Espresso is renowned for its coffee but it’s also establishing itself as a place where parents can go and enjoy a welcome break. Tall palm trees tower over the exciting Crema kids playground, designed to reflect Coolangatta’s foreshore and the fun that it brings. The space itself is a peaceful and beautiful haven and the menu is ever expanding. For kids there’s lots to choose from too, from brightly coloured frappes to cheesy toasted fingers.
Koffee at Tiffany’s
Koffee at Tiffany’s is open for breakfast and brunch and offers a range of specials that the locals love. From French toast with bacon and banana to gourmet vegetable pie there’s always something new to find. The muffins are yummy and the iced coffee too.

Try chilli salmon or a roast vegetable wrap and wash it down with great coffee.
Max Brenner Chocolate Bar
If you’re happy to skip the wholesome breakfast and go straight for the sweet stuff, Max Brenner Chocolate Bar is open from 9am and offers a naughty but delicious start to the day. Choose a Tutti-Frutti Waffle with ice cream, strawberries and banana or some tasty banana praline crepes.
